Pilots is a non-uniformed Christian youth group that believes children are an essential part of the Church, and strives to involve them with its activities and the word of God. Pilots was formed in 1936 in memory of the missionary John Williams and the fundraising work carried out by children in England to fund the creation of a boat named in his honour to continue his legacy and work.
But what do Pilots actually do?
Well, a Pilots company will normally meet every week and the Captain and Leaders will run a programme of games, worship and activities. It could be cooking one week, learning about the pyramids of Egypt the next, and a paper aeroplane throwing competition the one after – there’s always something fun and original going on. Pilots companies use The Compass, a resource pack, to plan many games and activities but new ideas are always being added.
Pilots also operates on a national level!
The Pilots Big Days Out are a highlight in the calendar, for which Pilots from all over the UK gather in one place for a day of extraordinary fun and adventure. In previous years there have been trips to Legoland, Longleat Safari Park, Warwick Castle and even Cadbury World! Wherever the Big Day Out is, it is always a fantastic and memorable day out for children and young people, as well as for all their parents, friends and the Leaders.
